Capobianco Overtime Heroics Lift Texas Stars Past Eagles

The Texas Stars snatched a thrilling 3-2 overtime victory against the Colorado Eagles on Friday night at the H-E-B Center in Cedar Park, courtesy of defenseman Kyle Capobianco’s decisive goal 1:44 into the extra period.

A scoreless first period gave way to Texas breaking the deadlock late in the second. On a power play, Kyle McDonald set up Arttu Hyry, who unleashed a one-timer from the slot to give the Stars a 1-0 advantage.

The Eagles responded swiftly in the third, leveling the score just 42 seconds in with a power-play goal from Jere Innala. Colorado then took their first lead late in the period, capitalizing on another power play as Ivan Ivan scored with just 2:36 remaining. However, the Stars refused to surrender. With goaltender Remi Poirier pulled for an extra attacker and just over a minute left, Hyry struck again, knotting the game at 2-2 and forcing overtime.

The extra frame saw Capobianco become the hero. With 3:16 remaining in overtime, he intercepted a pass from Innala at the top of the slot and fired a shot that beat Colorado netminder Adam Scheel high on the glove side, securing the dramatic 3-2 victory for the Stars.

Goaltender Remi Poirier was solid in net for Texas, stopping 27 of 29 shots, while Scheel made 23 saves on 26 shots in the overtime loss for the Eagles. The hard-fought victory showcased the Stars’ resilience and ability to perform under pressure.
