Texas Relays Kicks Off with Grueling Decathlon and Heptathlon Battles

Myers Stadium on the University of Texas campus, with the first day of the grueling two-day women’s Heptathlon and men’s Decathlon competitions. Athletes pushed their limits across multiple events, setting the stage for an thrilling conclusion on Thursday.
In the women’s Heptathlon, Alabama freshman Katelyn Adel leads the pack after day one, accumulating 3408 points. She faces stiff competition from Cincinnati sophomore Juliette Laracuente-Huebner, who is close behind with 3377 points. Oklahoma Baptist senior Valerie Olson holds third place with 3337 points. Individual event winners included Long Beach State’s Claudine Raud-Gumiel in the 100m Hurdles (13.75s), Adel in the High Jump (1.77m), and Olson dominating both the Shot Put (12.60m) and 200m (24.19s).
The men’s Decathlon saw North Carolina junior Max Stakun-Pickering take the lead after the initial day of events, amassing 4130 points. He’s followed by Long Beach State sophomore Ryan Gregory with 3948 points, and UC Santa Barbara senior Brad Thomas in third at 3931 points. Key event victories included Aidan Turner of Long Beach State winning the 100m (10.68s), Illinois State’s Ryan Schaefer taking the Long Jump (7.07m), Stakun-Pickering leading the Shot Put (14.52m), Milo Orona from Long Beach State winning the High Jump (1.98m), and Alabama’s John Landers securing the 400m (48.20s).
The multi-event competitions will resume on Thursday, promising more captivating track and field action as athletes vie for the top spots.
