Champions Crowned as Decathlon and Heptathlon Conclude at Texas Relays

The demanding two-day women’s Heptathlon and men’s Decathlon competitions wrapped up on Thursday at Mike A. Myers Stadium, bringing an exhilarating start to the 2025 Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays. After a fierce battle across multiple events, champions were finally crowned in front of an enthusiastic crowd.

In the women’s Heptathlon, freshman Katelyn Adel of Alabama secured the top spot with a total of 5587 points, showcasing remarkable consistency over the seven disciplines. Cincinnati sophomore Juliette Laracuente-Huebnerfinished a close second with 5584 points, just three points shy of the title. Valerie Olson, a senior from Oklahoma Baptist, rounded out the top three with 5428 points. Notably, Texas freshman Meagan Humphries put on a strong performance for the home team, finishing fourth overall with 5199 points. Thursday’s Heptathlon events saw Laracuente-Huebner win the Long Jump (5.89m), Kiley Sanders of Illinois State claim the Javelin Throw (37.12m), and Olivia Keller of St. Thomas take the 800m (2:12.67).

The men’s Decathlon title went to North Carolina junior Max Stakun-Pickering, who amassed an impressive 7572 points. Long Beach State sophomore Ryan Gregory secured second place with 7557 points, while UC Santa Barbara senior Brad Thomas finished third with 7538 points. Thursday’s Decathlon events featured standout performances, including Connecticut’s Joshua Mooney winning both the 110m hurdles (14.40s) and the Javelin Throw (61.33m). Ariel Atias of Illinois State took the Discus Throw (42.86m), Luke Bontke from UT-Arlington excelled in the Pole Vault (4.85m), and Alabama’s John Landers won the 1500m run (4:20.44).

With the multi-events concluded, the Texas Relays promise more thrilling track and field action in the days to come.
