Moto3: Bertelle Masters a Wet COTA as Rookie Quiles Shines

The opening day of the Moto3™ World Championship at the Circuit of the Americas was a wet affair, but familiar face Matteo Bertelle (LEVEL UPMTA) once again proved his wet-weather prowess, topping the timesheets in a sodden session. His dominant performance continues a strong start to the season for the Italian rider.

However, the real buzz came from behind him, as rookie sensation Maximo Quiles (CFMOTO Valresa Aspar Team) made an astonishing debut. In his first-ever Moto3™ outing, Quiles defied expectations by snatching second place, briefly even holding the top spot in the closing moments. The young Spaniard’s immediate impact suggests he’s a name we’ll be hearing much more of.

Great Britain’s Scott Ogden (CIP Green Power) secured a commendable third place, showcasing his consistent form. Rounding out the top five were David Almansa (Leopard Racing) and David Muñoz (Liqui Moly Dynavolt Intact GP), both displaying strong pace despite the challenging conditions.

While Jose Antonio Rueda (Red Bull KTM Ajo) maintained his streak of top-six finishes, it wasn’t without drama. A late crash at Turn 20 put his Q2 hopes in jeopardy before a last-gasp flying lap secured his spot. Elsewhere, the “save of the year” undoubtedly went to Angel Piqueras (FRINSAMT Helmets – MSI), who miraculously held onto his bike after a front-end tuck at the final corner.
