Rueda Dominates in Austin, Claims Second Moto3 Victory
March 30, 2025Jose Antonio Rueda (Red Bull KTM Ajo) delivered a commanding performance at the Red Bull Grand Prix of the Americas, securing his second Moto3 win of the season with a masterful ride from the front. Joel Kelso (LEVELUP – MTA) achieved his first dry-weather podium in second, while teammate Matteo Bertelle earned his maiden Moto3 rostrum finish in third, marking a significant milestone in his career.
The race ignited with a sensational start from debutant Maximo Quiles (CFMoto Valresa Aspar Team), who led his very first World Championship racing lap. However, the dynamics shifted quickly with early dramas impacting the front group. Pole-sitter David Muñoz (Liqui Moly Dynavolt Intact GP) slid out of contention, and Adrian Fernandez (Leopard Racing) faced a series of setbacks, including a last-minute pitlane exit, a grid infringement, and a jump start that resulted in two Long Lap penalties.
As the race progressed, Rueda took control, steadily building a lead that stretched to over two seconds by the halfway mark. Behind him, Kelso and Bertelle engaged in a thrilling duel for second and third. Angel Piqueras (FRINSA – MT Helmets – MSI), Alvaro Carpe (Red Bull KTM Ajo), and the impressive Quiles gave chase, while a larger battle unfolded for positions further down the field.
Rueda maintained his composure on the final lap, crossing the finish line with a comfortable lead. Kelso secured a safe second, followed by Bertelle, who finally converted his strong season starts into a podium finish. The most intense action unfolded behind them, with Piqueras and Quiles locked in a spectacular last-lap fight for fourth, ultimately won by Piqueras. Quiles, nonetheless, celebrated a remarkable top-five debut.
Dennis Foggia (CFMoto Valresa Aspar Team) emerged victorious from a tight group battle for seventh, ahead of Adrian Cruces (CIP – Green Power) and Taiyo Furusato (Honda Team Asia). New Zealander Cormac Buchanan (DENSSI Racing - BOE) secured his first top-ten finish, with rookie Guido Pini (Liqui Moly Dynavolt Intact GP) close behind. Despite his earlier misfortunes, Fernandez staged an impressive recovery, battling back to P12 and earning valuable points.
