Comets Crush Express in Series Opener
April 8, 2025The Oklahoma City Comets defeated the Round Rock Express 16-3 in the opening game of their six-game series. The Express struggled, sending seven pitchers to the mound, including their backup catcher.
Oklahoma City’s Eddie Rosario led off the second inning with a double, stole third, and scored on a Michael Chavis single, giving the Comets a 1-0 lead. Round Rock’s Blaine Crim responded with a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth, tying the game 1-1.
The Comets took control in the fourth inning, scoring five runs. Ryan Ward and Michael Chavis hit back-to-back doubles, followed by RBI singles from Kody Hoese, Hyseong Kim, and Alex Freeland. Kim then scored on a Rosario groundout, extending Oklahoma City’s lead to 6-1.
In the seventh, Ryan Ward’s 336-foot home run, a walk by Austin Gauthier, and a single by Kim set up a two-run double by Alex Freeland, pushing the Comets’ lead to 9-1.
Oklahoma City exploded for seven runs in the ninth inning. Chavis led off with his third home run of the year. Hoese scored on a Kim double, and Freeland hit a three-run homer. James Outman capped off the inning with his first home run of the year, following a Rosario walk.
Oklahoma City’s Nick Frasso and Round Rock’s Nolan Hoffman started, but neither factored into the decision. Sam Carlson earned the win for the Comets, pitching two scoreless innings and allowing one hit. Hunter Strickland took the loss for the Express, allowing five runs on four hits in two-thirds of an inning.
