Oklahoma City Defeats Round Rock Express in Thrilling Comeback
April 10, 2025The Oklahoma City Comets rallied for seven runs in the final two innings to overcome an Express lead and secure a 9-8 victory. Despite a strong start by the Round Rock Express, Oklahoma City demonstrated resilience and offensive firepower down the stretch.
After Oklahoma City’s Justin Jarvis struck out the first two Round Rock batters, Justin Foscue and Trevor Hauver singled, setting the table for Cody Freeman, who cleared the bases with a double to right field and a 2-0 lead for the home team.
Eddie Rosario’s 410-foot home run in the second inning narrowed the Comets’ deficit to 2-1. In his first game back from a brief stint with the Rangers, Jonathan Ornelas hit a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Alan Trejo and extending the Express lead to 3-1. Oklahoma City’s Alex Freeland added a sacrifice fly in the third, making the score 3-2.
Round Rock extended their lead to 5-2 in the bottom of the sixth after four consecutive singles and a sacrifice fly from Alex De Goti. Blaine Crim led off the seventh with a single, followed by walks to Tucker Barnhart and Foscue. Alan Trejo’s walk forced in Crim, putting the Express ahead 6-2.
Oklahoma City mounted their comeback in the eighth. After Round Rock pitcher Dane Acker retired the first two batters, the Comets scored four runs on a two-run single from James Outman and a two-run home run from Michael Chavis, tying the game at 6-6.
A Justin Foscue single in the bottom of the eighth gave Round Rock a 7-6 lead, but Oklahoma City’s Alex Freeland doubled in the ninth, scoring Hyeseong Kim and tying the game at 7-7. Rosario then launched his second home run of the game—a go-ahead, two-run blast—giving the Comets a 9-7 lead. Evan Carter homered for Round Rock in the bottom of the ninth, but Oklahoma City held on for the 9-8 victory.
Comets relief pitcher Jul Fernandez earned the win, while Round Rock’s relief pitcher took the loss.
