Express Outlast Aviators in Weather Interrupted Game
April 22, 2025The Round Rock Express (12-10) took down the Las Vegas Aviators (14-8) by a final score of 2-to-1. The contest was suspended Tuesday evening by rain and hail and was completed Wednesday.
Rehabbing Texas Rangers pitcher Jack Leiter took the start for the Express. Leiter left the game unexpectedly in the fifth inning with two outs, shortly after being clipped by a line drive.
Relief pitcher Adrian Houser completed the fifth inning, allowing one run on three hits before weather halted the game.
Dane Acker (1-0) resumed the game on the mound to earn the win, going three innings allowing no runs nor hits, striking out four and walking one batter. Matt Festa pitched the final frame to earn the save.
Las Vegas starting pitcher Gunnar Hoglund looked extremely sharp before the rain delay, holding the Express scoreless, allowing one hit, striking out five and walking two batters.
Jake Walkingshaw took the mound for the Aviators after the delay and took home the loss. Walkingshaw allowed two runs on two hits, walking two batter and striking out one in two innings of work.
The Aviators’ sole run came from Alejo Lopez’s single to plate Carlos Cortes. Cortes reached base on a single and advance to second base on Willie MacIver’s single.
Round Rock scored their runs in a two-out sixth inning rally. The Express loaded the bases with a walk to Evan Carter, a single by Ezequiel Duran, and a walk to Justin Foscue. Blaine Crim’s brough home the game-tying and game winning runs.
