Austin FC Finds Winning Form, Defeats New York Red Bulls 2-1
June 14, 2025Austin FC clinched a victory in its only home match in June, securing a hard-fought 2-1 win over the New York Red Bulls. This marks the club’s second consecutive MLS triumph, a feat not achieved since March, signaling a potential turning point as the second half of the season commences.
Head Coach Nico Estevez expressed optimism about the team’s recent form. “There is a lot of positives in these last two games,” Estevez noted. “There are a lot of things to keep improving. Winning or losing we still need to improve and get better. I’m really, really happy for the effort that the team put into the good moments of soccer.”
Guilherme Biro and Brandon Vazquez provided the decisive goals for Austin FC. Biro struck early, heading in a well-placed cross from Owen Wolff inside six minutes, giving Austin an immediate 1-0 lead. Wolff’s consistent ability to deliver into dangerous areas continues to be a key asset for the Verde and Black offense, which has now tallied four goals in its last two victorious outings.
In the second half, designated players Osman Bukari and Brandon Vazquez combined for the winning goal. Bukari showcased exquisite skill, navigating past three New York defenders at the top of the box before delivering a perfect pass to a surging Vazquez, who slotted it precisely between the near post and RBNY keeper Carlos Coronel. This goal was particularly redemptive for Vazquez, who had inadvertently contributed to New York’s lone score via an own goal while attempting to clear a cross.
While the attack shone, Austin’s backline also deserved immense credit for containing a formidable Red Bulls offense. Mikkel Desler, Brendan Hines-Ike, and Oleksandr Svatok delivered strong performances. Guilherme Biro continued his consistent play at left back, demonstrating his reliable defensive capabilities alongside his unexpected offensive contributions this season, earning praise from Estevez for his “qualities” and defensive prowess on set pieces. Goalkeeper Brad Stuver faced minimal pressure, making his crucial lone save in the game’s dying seconds to preserve the victory.
