Texas State Dominates in Season Opener

The Texas State Bobcats kicked off their season with an explosive performance, racking up over 600 yards of offense to defeat the Eastern Michigan Eagles 52-27. The victory was a testament to the team’s potent ground game and the impressive debut of their freshman quarterback.

Freshman quarterback Brad Jackson shined in his first start, passing for 214 yards and an impressive four touchdowns with no interceptions. “I thought Brad played really well,” said head coach GJ Kinne. “I felt like a vet out there… We were explosive, we were able to run the ball. It was good to see.”

The Bobcats’ offense was unstoppable on the ground, amassing 392 rushing yards. Senior running back Lincoln Pare led the charge with 167 yards on 12 carries, including a 53-yard breakaway that set up his own 24-yard touchdown. Running backs Greg Burrell and Jaylon Jenkins also added rushing touchdowns, with Jenkins sealing the win with a 58-yard dash.

Jackson’s favorite target was receiver Beau Sparks, who hauled in all four of the quarterback’s touchdown passes. Sparks’s four-touchdown performance tied a program record for most touchdown catches in a single game. “We put a lot of work in… and it just all came together,” Sparks said.

While the Eagles managed to put up 27 points, the Bobcat defense delivered crucial plays, including a sack by Jaden Rio and another by Terrence Cooks II, which stalled Eastern Michigan’s drives and helped secure the commanding victory. This win marks a strong start for the Bobcats, who now look to build on this momentum.
