Aviators Remain Perfect with Walk Off TD in OT

The Spring League (TSL) Aviators (2-0) maintained their perfect record with a come from behind overtime victory over the TSL Blues (1-1).

The Aviators were down by ten points in the final frame when quarterback McLeod Bethel-Thompson drove the field and capped the drive with a touchdown throw to Kent Shelby.  Bethel-Thompson nearly drove the field again, but the Aviators settled for a 40-yard game-tying field goal by Toshiki Sato as time expired.

In overtime, the Aviators forced the Blues to punt after their first possession.  Aviators special teams punt returner Mathew Sexton ran the table for a 90-yard walk off touchdown.  Final score was 23-17.

Bethel-Thompson threw for 332 yards (25-for-36) and 2 touchdowns.  DelVon Hardaway had 6 receptions for 139 yards and a touchdown.  Shelby brought down 3 catches for 49 yards.  Julian Williams pulled in 5 catches for 49 yards.

The Blues were led by quarterback Shea Patterson who completed 16 of 24 pass attempts for 176 yards, a touchdown and an interception.  Running back Matthew Colburn II seemed unstoppable, rushing for 188 yards on 23 carries and a touchdown, and pulling down 2 receptions for 34 yards. Tight ends Shawn Clark and David Grinnage caught for 57 yards and 44 yards, respectively.

The Aviators (2-0) next face the Conquerors (0-2) in Week 3 of The Spring League.  And the Blues (1-1) take on the Jousters (0-2).
