Cane Cutters Topple Hairy Men

The Acadiana Cane Cutter (5-8) evened their three-game series against the Round Rock Hairy Men (7-7) with an 8-5 victory at Dell Diamond on Wednesday evening. 

Acadiana struck first with two runs in the top of the second inning.  Round Rock pulled ahead with three runs in their half of the frame.  The Cane Cutter immediately retaliated with three runs in the top of the third inning, only to have the Hairy Men even the score in the bottom of the inning.  Momentum swung with the Cane Cutters with runs in the fourth, fifth and eighth inning while the Hairy Men were held to just two hits. 

Acadiana starting pitcher Bailey Holstein earned the win and improved his record to 2-0.  Holstein allowed 5 runs on 7 hits in 4 innings.  Cane Cutter closer Matthew Adams secured the save.  Acadian sent four pitchers to the mound in the game. 

Round Rock starter Mitchell Holcomb gave-up 5 runs on 6 hits in 3 innings pitched, but the loss went to reliever Jacob Ashkinos.   Ashkino allowed 1 hit on 1 unearned run in 1 inning.  Hairy Men pitching coach Tanner Driskill was kept busy in the evening, sending up five pitchers against the Cane Cutters. 

Cole McConnell led the Cane Cutters with 4 hits in 5 at-bats with 1 RBI.  Round Rock’s Jacob McKenzie led the team with 2 hits in 4 at-bats with 2 RBIs and a stolen base. 

The two teams meet again Thursday night for the deciding game in the series.
