Cubs Club Express

The Iowa Cubs (6-21) took on the Round Rock Express (11-19) for the third game in the four game series Sunday afternoon.  The teams split the first two games.  Duane Underwood (0-3 in 5 starts) took the mound for the Cubs and the Yovani Gallardo (0-0 in 3 starts) for the Express.

The game was scoreless going into the top of the fifth inning.  Ryan Court of the Cubs singled to center field with one out.  A single by Chesny Young advanced Court to second base.   A double by Mike Freeman scored Court, but Young was tagged out at the plate by catcher Cameron Rupp, on a throw from Willie Calhoun and a relay by Hanser Alberto.  Feeman then scored on a single by David Bote.  Bote advanced to second base on a single by Efren Navarro.  Bote then scored the third run of the inning for Iowa on a single by Mark Zagunis that was deflected by Express second baseman Christian Lopes.  Express relief pitcher Deolis Guerra replaced Gallardo to strikeout Bijan Rademacher and retire the side.

Iowa added to their lead on a home run by David Bote (5) to right field.  The Cub led the Express 4-0.

Iowa carried a one-hit shutout into the bottom of the eighth inning until Andy Ibanez hit a two-out homer (1) to right field.  Hanser Alberto tried to continue the rally with a single on a ground ball to shortstop Ryan Court.  Alberto advances to second on a throwing error by Court.   The rally ended when Christian Lopes flied out to center field.
