Georgetown over Hayes in Nail Bitter

The Georgetown Eagles overcame the Hayes Rebels in a nail-biting, come from behind victory on Thursday evening.  Final score was Hayes 28, Georgetown 35.

First quarter play was sluggish.  Georgetown scored first on a 71-yard TD pass from Cooper Bell to Caden Leggett, but failed on the point after attempt.  Hayes only mustered a 23-yard field goal.

Georgetown’s scoring combo of Bell / Leggett repeated itself with a 29-yard passing TD in the second quarter.  Georgetown abandoned the PAT kick and converted on a run.  The remainder of the first half was all Hayes.  The Rebels’ Ballinger nailed a 33-yard field goal and Xavier Martinez later found Sam Scott on a two-yard TD pass.  The teams took a 14 – 14 tied into the locker room at halftime.

The teams battle back-and-forth for the entire second half.  The Rebels scored on a 23-yard pass from Xavier Martinez to Gentry Brawith in the third quarter.  Georgetown tied the game in early fourth quarter on an 8-yard pass from Cooper Bell to Dylan Cahill.  Hayes again took the lead on the Martinez / Brawith passing duo for a 32 yards score.  The remainder of the game remained to Eagles.  Georgetown pulled even on a 53-yard pass from Cooper Bell to Caden Leggett, and then took the led on a 4-yard quarterback keeper touchdown by Cooper Bell.
