Justin Ruggiano acquired by NY Mets

Austin native, Justin Ruggiano, was the latest of many Round Rock Express players to find there way again to the Major Leagues.  On July 30, 2016, the Mets signed Ruggiano to their 25-man roster to replace the injured José Reyes.

Ruggiano is no stranger to Show.  Ruggiano played college baseball for the Texas A&M Aggies.  The Los Angeles Dodgers drafted Ruggiano in the 25th round of the 2004 MLB Draft.  From there he went to Tampa Bay Rays, Houston Astros, Miami Marlins, Chicago Cubs, Seattle Mariners, again to Chicago Cubs, and back to where he started, the Los Angeles Dodgers.

This year the Texas Rangers signed Ruggiano to a one-year deal with the initial plan of Ruggiano platooning with outfielder Josh Hamilton.  After the first game of the season, the Rangers designated Ruggiano for assignment and was out-righted to the Round Rock Express.  While playing for the Express Ruggiano started 44 games, with a batting average of .226 and an on base percentage of .321.  He hit 7 home runs with 70 total bases.

Unfortunately, after only six plate appearances with the Mets, Ruggiano was placed on the disabled list with a left hamstring strain.
