Monster Trucks devestate Dell Diamond

The TRAXXAS Monster Truck Destruction Tour came to Dell Diamond this weekend, bringing with it soaring jumps, spectacular rollovers, ear-ringing noise, sheared fiberglass bodies, bright colored truck bodies, small fires, and yes, even a crash into an ambulance.  The large crowd was so large  on Saturday evening that it created a traffic jam seldom seen in Round Rock.

A monster truck is a massive scaled-up of an off-road 4x4 truck.  The truck is custom built on a tubular chassis, with four-link suspension to provide up to 4-feet of clearance.   Balloon-like tires measure nearly six feet tall and are controlled by four wheel steering, with the front wheels controlled by the steering wheel and the rear wheels by a toggle switch.

Safety is the highest important with Monster Truck demonstrations.  The trucks have many safety features, including Remote Ignition Interrupt (RII), that kills electrical power to the vehicle, and for the drivers,  fire-retardant suits, safety harnesses, helmets, and head and neck restraints.

The devastation was made possible by a planned re-sodding of the Dell Diamond turf. The Monster Truck did an outstanding job literally tearing up of the old field.
