New Orleans Avoids Series Sweep Against Round Rock

The New Orleans Baby Cakes (69-61) avoided a series sweep by taking the final game in their series against the Round Rock Express (79-53).  The final score was Baby Cakes 2, Express 1. 

Round Rock designated hitter Lorenzo Quintana gave the Express an early lead with a solo home run over the left field wall. 

New Orleans tied the game in the seventh inning.  Deven Marrero singled and then stole second base.  Marrero scored on a double by Peter O’Brien. 

The Baby Cakes took the lead in the eighth inning.  Magneuris Sierra singled and advanced to second base on a pickoff throwing error by Brendan McCurry.  A fielder choice advanced Sierra to third base.  Sierra scored on a double by Yadiel Rivera. 

Express starting pitcher Cristian Javier looked spectacular in his first career PCL game.  Javier struckout 8 batters in 6 innings, allowing only 2 hits while walking 2.   

Round Rock relief pitcher Josh James allowed New Orleans to tie the game and was assigned the blown save. James allowed 1 run on 2 hits in 1 inning.  Brendan 

McCurry (3-4) took over for James and suffered the loss.  McCurry gave up 1 run on 3 hits in 2 innings while striking out 3 batters. 

Starting Baby Cakes pitcher Joe Gunkel (7-2) earned the win.  Gunkel went 7 innings, allowing 1 run on 3 hits while striking out 3 batters and walking 2.
