One-side Win for Wild Inaugural Home Opener

The Austin Wild Football made a powerful statement against the Texas Power in their inaugural home game in the American Arena League (AAL).

The Wild (formally the Cap City Bulls Football) was a “travel only” club last season in the Supreme Indoor League.   The Wild joined the AAL, which was formed by the merger of the Arena Pro Football League and the Can-Am Indoor Football League, as an Affiliate team in 2018.  The AAL started its first season in 2018.

The Wild took on the Texas Power, which looked to be a one-side match-up even before the coin-toss.  The Power looked over weight and slower than the Wild, with even the kicker sporting a hefty belly.  The Power also played in mis-matched helmet logos, the only common theme being the being the color.

The mis-match was more apparent when play started.  The Power was plagued with a series of penalties from delay of game, off-sides, illegal motion and illegal formation that robbed the game of any flow in the first quarter.

The second quarter was good football.  Both teams played well with relatively clean execution.  The Wild took a 28-8 lead into the locker room at the half.

The third quarter was a one-sided brawl, the equivalent being an high school team taking on a Pop Warner team.  The Wild manhandled the Power in all aspects of the game.  The Power starting quarterback was so badly beated with late hits that the officials should have been cited for mal-practice.  The near defenseless Power surrendered and trailed 69-8 at the end of the third quarter.

Sensing that irreparable could come to the Power, Wild Head Coach Derrick Wallace played the bench for the remainder of the game.  The final score was Austin Wild 69, Texas Power 8.
