SXSW Unveils SlugFest Boxing

Bringing professional boxing to a world-renowned music, film and interactive festival fell well within SXSW capacity for creativity and risk taking.  The result was SXSW Slugfest.

Slugfest brought five, albeit lopsided bouts to the Moody Theater.  Carlos Trevino of McAllen, Texas (Wins: 6, Loses: 11, Draws: 1) took on Manuel Rubalcava of Nuevo Laredo, Mexico (3, 26,0) in the only contested battle of the evening.  The 29 year old Rubalcava won the bout in the only decision of the evening.

Manuel Mondragon (2, 1, 0) of Michocana, Mexico, took on Tyler Pacheco (1, 0, 0) of Ft. Smith, Arkansa in a bout that lasted only 54 seconds.  Mondragon won with a TKO.

Prisco Marquez (3, 0, 1) of Liberal, Kansas, pummeled a near defenseless Tanner Todd (0, 3, 1) of Waco Texas, resulting in a TKO at 1:11 in the first round.  Todd should seriously consider never stepping in the ring again.

Iskander Karsan (2,0,0) Almaty, Kazakhstan over-powered and brutalized Richard Munoz (1, 2, 1) of Grand Rapids, Michigan.  Karsan won by TKO mid-way through the scheduled six round bout.  Munoz required the assistance of both the referee and the physician to get up from the mat.

And in the premier match of the evening, Reshard Hicks ( 9, 0, 1) of Quincy, Florida, battled with Adan Ahumada ( 3, 3, 2) of Mexico.  The evenly matched Ahumada appeared to tire under the relentless attack from Hicks.  The physically prepared Hicks won by KO in the third round of the eight round affair.
