Texas Roller Derby: Putas del Fuega attempt comeback but Cherry Bombs prevail

There are so many different, and good, ways to describe Texas Roller Derby.   The crowd’s engagement resembles Rocky Horror Picture Show.  Some of the theatrics, especially during penalties, resembles old-style championship wrestling.   But in its finest moments, it is a legitimate competition, resembling football and ice hockey.  The athletes enjoy there their short-lived notoriety but at the end of the day they are are out to win.  This past Saturday, the Cherry Bombs battled the Putas del Fuego in a lopsided match-up.  The Cherry Bombs dominated the first half, taking at 27 – 9 lead to the intermission.  The Putas reached deep at half time and mounted a comeback.  But the evening ended with the Cherry Bombs winning 54 – 32.  The league plays every third Saturday at the
Palmer Events Center.
