Tucson Rally Falls Short, Stars in OT

The Tucson Roadrunners rallied to force an overtime period, but Matej Stransky’s goal secure victory for the Texas Stars.

First period play lacked energy, with neither team scoring.  Stars’ Coach Derek Laxdal fired up the
players during the break and the team re-entered the ice with a new attitude.  Ethan Werek started the Texas scoring at 2:07, followed a few second later on a goal Julius Honka on a power play.  A Roadrunner’s goal by Tyler Gaudet saw the second period close with the Stars leading 2-1.

Third period scoring was started by Texas, but the period belonged to Tucson.  Denis Gurianov scored for Texas at 4:09, assisted by Travis Morin and Brandon DeFazio.  But the Roadrunners fought back with scores by Joe Whitney (12:59) and  Laurent Dauphin (18:29) to tie the game.

Texas won in overtime on Stansky’s goal.  Stars goalie Justin Peters earned the win, allowing three goals on 29 shots.
